Indian Serials (soap opera)

I was an avid watcher (not by choice) of Zee TV because...Mom took the remote every day at 9 PM. I unfortunately have a very good experience this concatenation of TRP storytelling. They thrive on the most primitive behaviour of humankind...problems. We, Indians, love seeing problems of other people. Due to this, the plot lines are way above the intellect of simpletons. The premise of the shows is so narrow that they have to resort to petty manoeuvres to get the viewers attention. Remeber this, these aren't weekly shows, they are daily shows.

Oh Wow..She came back from the dead

I am not generalising all Indian serials here, there have to be some good ones... I still haven't found them yet. In this universe, ending it at the right time doesn't exist because we just want more and more.

Sasural Simar Ka, a serial on Colors TV, ran for a mindblowing 2063 episodes spanning 7 years. Can you guess the number of seasons?... It is 3. Yes, just 3. You can see how they don't change their premise of the show. In comparison, Simpsons has run 29 seasons with only 639 episodes.

Due to the daily nature of the shows, the timeline issue is as bizarre as "The Flash". In one such show (Kumkum Bhagya), a woman was pregnant for more than 10 months just because they wanted views. All major festivals are somehow extended magically to a month-long occasion.

You can predict it 95% of the time. The other 5% is due to some inane plot twist that no living being can ever conceive.
  • The bad guy is about to get caught:
    • He or she will somehow escape or blame some clueless dimwit character and the others will believe every word.
  • Main character dies:
    •  Purna janam (Reincarnation... Because it's India)
  • The writers are out of ideas:
    • *20 YEARS LATER*Change city*Change premise*

True story

The special effects are of other worldly dimensions. Background music ( (Jai mata ji) times 1000) with visual effect is a deadly combination which hypnotises every viewer and with a tinge of 10000 close-ups of faces of all characters makes it a hit.

Even though they are criticised by us a lot ,they are addictive as hell. That's their catch. Once hooked...always hooked (believe me it's true)

Rating: 6/10  (it's a lot. I didn't cut 4 points  but painstakingly gave 6.)
